Marathon Pharmaceuticals Announces
Availability of Amytal^® Sodium Now Packaged and Dispensed in Single Units
DEERFIELD, Illinois | January 30, 2009

Marathon Pharmaceuticals, LLC announced today the U.S. availability of Amytal^® Sodium (Amobarbital Sodium for Injection). Amytal Sodium is indicated as a pre-anesthetic, sedative and short-term treatment for insomnia.

Amytal Sodium is the third product launch for Marathon in the last three months, following three acquisitions from Ranbaxy Pharmaceuticals (NYSE: RBXY), which also included Opium tincture, USP, and Seconal Sodium.^® Marathon is making Amytal Sodium available with a new, more convenient packaging configuration that allows Amytal Sodium to be packaged and dispensed in single units rather than packages of 10. This change will allow physicians to order what they need, resulting in less product waste if it is not used before its expiration date.

In surveillance of thousands of hospitalized patients who received barbiturates, the most commonly observed adverse event associated with Amytal Sodium was somnolence (drowsiness), which is estimated to occur in one to three percent of patients.¹

Amytal Sodium is a Schedule II substance and may be habit forming. As with all barbiturates, tolerance, psychological and physical dependence may occur with continued use.
